This miniseries is a new drama using a composite character (Aminata Diallo, played by Aunjanue Ellis) to dramatize the story of slaves who were promised their freedom and fought in a war. Except, in this little-told chapter from history, the conflict in question was the Revolutionary War, and the slaves belonged to the British. Also starring: Louis Gossett Jr., whose credentials in this particular genre were made impeccable thanks to his unforgettable performance as Fiddler in 1977’s Roots.
