INDEPENDENT LENS: "MUSCLE SHOALS"
April 21, 2014  | By David Bianculli

PBS, 9:00 p.m. ET

In Alabama, the Muscle Shoals recording studios generated an impressively eclectic batch of music, from “When a Man Loves a Woman” by Percy Sledge and “Mustang Sally” by Wilson Pickett to albums by Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones and Herbie Mann. Paul Simon went there to record “Kodachrome” – and this documentary explores the history and the legacy of the place that also generated great music by Aretha Franklin, Lynyrd Skynyrd and others. Check local listings.
