MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE
November 22, 2012  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

NBC, 9:00 a.m. ET

Hello Kitty! And hello, all you other parade floats in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – a celebration not only of the holiday, but of New York’s resilience after Superstorm Sandy. A day, indeed, to give thanks, unless you don’t have power to watch it.

Macy's parade, while great in person, isn't worth watching on TV. The networks focus on the talking heads, interviews, and overhyped "stars" performing for the camera. They should be focusing on the parade itself. The crews that have put together the floats, balloons, marching units, and other units have spent a year of more working at getting it attractive and right. It's just not right to claim to be bringing viewers a grand historical parade, and then ignore it almost completely.
