A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
October 24, 2013  | By David Bianculli

CMT, 8:00 p.m. ET

Baseball fans love this 1992 movie, which stars Geena Davis as a star player for the women’s professional baseball league during WWII, and Tom Hanks as the team’s washed-up manager. But baseball fans will be watching Game 2 of the World Series tonight, so CMT clearly sees it as counter-programming, aiming at female viewers less interested in the sport than in a picture about women. It could be a smart move – and even if it isn’t, there’s no crying in baseball. Or in TV scheduling.
