CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND
April 4, 2014  | By David Bianculli

BBC America, 8:00 p.m. ET

Just think of what Steven Spielberg could do with modern computer technology if he made this movie today, instead of in 1977. Then forget you ever thought that, because this fanciful film, full of wonder and awe and imagination, is pretty much perfect the way it is. Richard Dreyfuss stars as one of several people who witness something mysterious, then can’t stop thinking about it – the “it” being an encounter with life from another planet, and the strong desire to experience a reunion. Watch it anew, and watch, if you can, with a little kid. Revisit, and witness, the true meaning of shock and awe.
