12 ANGRY MEN
July 26, 2015  | By David Bianculli

TCM, 6:15 p.m. ET

In case there are youngsters (or even oldsters) out there who didn’t understand the pop-culture reference behind Amy Schumer’s brilliant, episode-long parody, “12 Angry Men Inside Amy Schumer,” here’s the context. Henry Fonda stars in this 1957 movie, playing the one juror voting not guilty in the original polling of jurors at a murder trial. Reginald Rose wrote this perfectly claustrophobic drama, also adapted by him into a hit stage play – but he wrote it originally as a live TV broadcast, for Studio One in 1954, starring Robert Cummings as the holdout juror.
