THE AMERICANS
March 13, 2013  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

Last week, Elizabeth and Phillip (Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys) were abducted by their own agency and tortured for information – which they refused to reveal, thus passing the paranoid loyalty test. A furious Elizabeth ended up pummeling, and almost drowning, her handler (guest star Margo Martindale), and this week they meet again, with Elizabeth offering an apology – of sorts. “I’m sorry,” she says, “I didn’t kill you.”

This show is just great. Yes, it's gotten a tad predictable in how the story lines are going, but the WAY they handle things is what's key. And they've kept it realistic. No fancy, fantasy gadgets or contrived plot devices. Even the fighting scenes are realistic and not some over-the-top, bogus action scene like you see in movies today. I hope they pick this up again for another season as right now it's one of the best on TV.
