Another new episode airs tonight – but having finally tuned in for some episodes, I’m not at all certain this new quiz show has the drama, or the sparkle, to catch on. But these are the installments that will let us know, one way or the other, because the contestants are working their way closer to the allegedly intense end of the line.

We pretty much already know. At the established pace, it would take into the 13th hour of this nine-hour tryout to reach the 500th question, if the initial player were still in the hot seat. He's not. The current champ might reach question 300 by the end of Thursday's finale. And what's the difference? It's not so much 500 Questions as it is ten rounds of 50 Questions; the show offers no incentives for increased wins.
