Before Will McAvoy...
July 18, 2012  | By Eric Gould

...there was  Bill Moyers. If the idea of journalism as a critical part of democracy is important to you, then you can see the Jeff Daniels character Will McAvoy go deep into the subject each week on the HBO series The Newsroom. Then there's Bill Moyers, who has been doing it for real, for decades. Viewers are lucky he came out of retirement this year with his weekly interview show, Moyers & Company, and hopefully he'll continue. TVWW is a little late coming to this clip — it aired the weekend of July 7 — but its subject of the influence of money in political campaigns is timeless. And so is his essay, which is impassioned and direct. HBO and Aaron Sorkin, take note. –EG
