Submitted From Mike Wallace: Rod Serling
July 11, 2012  | By Eric Gould

Watch Rod Serling: The Man Who Knew Too Much on PBS. See more from American Masters.

The PBS/American Masters website is now running the full 20-minute interview Rod Serling gave in 1959 for The Mike Wallace Interview -- just before The Twilight Zone would premiere. Serling had wide acclaim for television plays up to that point, and equal notoriety for battling sponsors and network censors. He just might be the blue print for the Don Draper character; combat veteran, thin, smoking, intense, articulate -- a rapid-fire machine of literary acumen. With every kind of high and low-brow content now available in modern media, it's hard to imagine a time when it was otherwise. But it's smart to look back and listen to those who had to fight the original battles for artistic liberty on television. You can watch the entire interview right here at Video Worth Watching. –EG
