BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

TCM, 6:15 p.m. ET

In case there are youngsters (or even oldsters) out there who didn’t understand the pop-culture reference behind Amy Schumer’s brilliant, episode-long parody, “12 Angry Men Inside Amy Schumer,” here’s the context. Henry Fonda stars in this 1957 movie, playing the one juror voting not guilty in the original polling of jurors at a murder trial. Reginald Rose wrote this perfectly claustrophobic drama, also adapted by him into a hit stage play – but he wrote it originally as a live TV broadcast, for Studio One in 1954, starring Robert Cummings as the holdout juror.

NBC, 8:00 p.m. ET

On tonight’s episode, Bruce’s parents, Patrick Duffy and Illeana Douglas, come to visit – and Greg goes skiing, which is not one of his strengths. Greg Poehler stars.

E!, 8:00 p.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: When TV Worth Watching launched back in 2007, one of its unofficial mottos – at least among those of us working on the original site – was “No Kardashians.” This may be the closest we’ve come. But there’s no denying that the highly public transition of Bruce Jenner, from former Olympian gold-medal athlete and harried reality-show dad to cover girl and ESPY Arthur Ashe bravery honoree, is both newsworthy and touchingly honest. Will this new reality series, following the newly christened Cait as she embraces fully her female identity, continue that same path of empathy and illumination? Or will it degenerate into the low level of every other E! reality series? The only way to know is to watch, which millions of people will be doing. At least once…

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

The three primary law-enforcement characters, at this point, are working together in an undercover capacity – but with other motives, and perhaps other bosses, as well, at least in one case. My main problem with this season of True Detective? The characters are always saying exactly what’s on their minds, which rarely happens in real life. Or really good dramas.

Showtime, 10:00 p.m. ET

In this week’s episode, the book – the one that put Masters and Johnson on the map – finally is published. Fame follows. So do complications.
