BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

HBO, 8:00 p.m. ET

This induction ceremony, held earlier this month in Cleveland, isn’t necessarily the most star-studded event since the Hall began doing this 30 years ago – but if you’ve been waiting for The “5” Royales and Bill Withers to get their due, you’ve waited long enough. Ringo Starr becomes the last of the Beatles to be inducted individually, though, at the start of the Seventies, he started his solo career with a string of catchy hits, usually written by and featuring one other former Beatle. In this event, Starr is welcomed into the Hall of Fame by the only other surviving memer of the Fab Four, Paul McCartney. Also honored: Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Green Day, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Lou Reed, and Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble. Performers include Dave Grohl, John Legend, Jimmie Vaughan and Beck.

Lifetime, 8:00 p.m. ET

MINISERIES PREMIERE: Part 1 of 2. Kelli Garner, star of the brief period series Pan Am, becomes the latest actress to stand in for perhaps the most famous cinematic sex symbol of them all. This two-part miniseries has Marilyn Monroe recounting her life, loves and traumas to her therapist, while we tag along watching the various flashbacks. Susan Sarandon co-stars as Norma Jean’s unstable mother, and other players include Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Joe DiMaggio and Stephen Bogaert as Arthur Miller. For the curious, but as with all biographies of this type, take them not just with a grain of salt – but with an entire salt lick. For a full review, see Ed Bark's Uncle Barky's Bytes.

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

Alicia Florrick and her daughter were watching this movie recently on an episode of The Good Wife. Her daughter asked her if she ever got to change people’s minds in the courtroom like Gregory Peck did, and deliver such impassioned, important speeches. “No,” she told her daughter. Her days in court mostly were about small pieces of evidence and key phrases in the rules of law – an answer that made me love her character all the more, but also love To Kill a Mockingbird all the more, too. This 1962 drama should be high on the list of anyone’s compendium of The Essentials – and should be seen at every opportunity, especially at a time when racial justice in our society remains more dream than reality.

BBC America, 9:00 p.m. ET

This season, Orphan Black has been segregating its clones, letting us spend more time with fewer of them each episode, and we’ve been richer for it. And just when you think that Tatiana Maslany has been put through too much of a wringer as the imprisoned Helena, it’s time to shift back to the comfort of the suburbs, and Alison’s new storefront concern – which comes with built-in dangers of its own.

BBC America, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s guests include George Clooney, who’s promoting Tomorrowland, but does it while recounting some of the favorite pranks he’s pulled over the years on buddy Brad Pitt. Also on tonight’s show: Hugh Laurie, who listens to Clooney’s stories with a mixture of what appears to be equal parts admiration and horror.
