BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

Another night of Disney offerings, billed as “Treasures from the Disney Vault,” begins with Hayley Mills in the dual role that made her a minor movie star – as in, a movie star who was a minor – in 1961’s The Parent Trap. She plays long-separated twins who meet, then scheme to reunite their long-divorced single parents. And when this delightful movie concludes at 10:15 a.m. ET, that’s when the really interesting stuff comes out of the vault, starting with such vintage Mickey Mouse cartoons as 1937’s Clock Cleaners and 1936’s Through the Mirror.

NBC, 9:00 p.m. ET

Because of U.S. Olympic swimming trials televised at 8 p.m. ET, tonight’s two-hour episode of America’s Got Talent moves to 9 – which pre-empts tonight’s regularly scheduled episode of Maya & Marty. Just in case you were looking for it…

Discovery, 9:00 p.m. ET

This title may sound racist, but it’s actually just another new entry in this year’s Shark Week festival on Discovery. As are, for that matter, tonight’s other prime-time Discovery offerings, Jaws of the Deep (8 p.m. ET) and Air Jaws: Night Stalker.

ABC, 10:00 p.m. ET

Betty White, who was a panelist on this game show during its salad days half a century ago, reclaims her seat, at least for tonight’s installment. To tell the truth, I think that’s pretty impressive. And here she is, on the original Truth, 50 years ago this year…

PBS, 10:00 p.m. ET

New Yorker staff writer Jelani Cobb presents this study of a police department that is determined to repair its fractured relationship with the community. In this case, it’s Newark, NJ, and this new documentary looks at the city’s history, as well as the efforts to start anew. Check local listings.
