America, meet 15 women who have created and defined American culture, as selected and profiled by list-compiling photographer and documentarian Timothy Greenfield-Sanders (The Black List, The Latino List, etc.). It’s a one-hour documentary, so that’s about four minutes per woman, tops – but what women! The list includes actress Edie Falco, singer Alicia Keys, TV writer-producer Shonda Rhimes, politician Nancy Pelosi, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright (pictured, in one of the filmmaker’s photos), and 10 others – including one, talk show host Wendy Williams, who, despite her achievements, really doesn’t belong here. I’ve seen her on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and on Ellen DeGeneres’ Ellen talk show, among other places, and each time, she amazes me with her simple, unshakeable humanity: young activist Malala Yousafza, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
