So this is it: After months of speculation and anticipation and negotiation, a one-week delay and some last-minute adjustments, two congressional committees – the first before the House Judiciary Committee, the second, after lunch, before the House Intelligence Committee. Mueller has said, on the record, he doesn’t plan to testify much beyond the content of his famous report – but subsequent summations of that same report by the attorney general makes his rectitude a question mark. Either way, even if the congressional committee members get Mueller to answer a few key questions, or even succinctly describe or confirm elements of his report, today’s TV coverage could feed an entire new cycle of news, analysis and political backlash. And no matter your political orientation, do what I do as a “professional” TV critic: Whenever Mueller isn’t talking, and the TV commentators are, flip among news and broadcast channels, to see what they’re saying on CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News Channel, and so on. And no matter what happens, today’s events truly are historic.
