MINISERIES PREMIERE: This eight-part drama, based on the novel by Celeste Ng, stars Reese Witherspoon as Elena, a suburban Ohio housewife who offers her rental property to an African-American artist and single mom named Mia – then hires her as a “house manager.” Mia is played by Kerry Washington, and Little Fires Everywhere quickly becomes a female-dominant drama akin to Witherspoon’s Big Little Lies. Although, for the sake of veracity, I should note that I lived for three years right next to Shaker Heights, OH, where this drama is set, and it and its residents are a lot more normal and boring than the ones portrayed here. In this new episode, one of the last for this series (which is about to close Season 11), Claire gets an opportunity to interview for the job of her dreams. But on Modern Family, no dream ever seems to be reached without a bumpy detour. Or, in this case, a faulty step.

SEASON PREMIERE: For Season 4, the final season, of Hank Azaria’s Brockmire, the show is boldly going where few continuing TV series have gone before: Ten years into the future. For these final innings of this wryly dark and funny comedy, Brockmire propels itself into the year 2030, when Brockmire confronts a truly unexpected future, as the man potentially tapped to save the waning fortunes of America’s sport.
