BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

CBS All Access, 3:00 a.m. ET

In tonight’s new episode, Margo Martindale reprises her juicy role as Democratic National Committee consultant Ruth Eastman, who on The Good Wife was both an ally and adversary of Alan Cumming’s Eli Gold. Tonight, she shows up at Reddick, Boseman and Lockhart to discuss a top-secret political strategy: the possibility of impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump. Where do The Good Fight producers Robert and Michelle King get their ideas?

BBC America, 8:00 p.m. ET

This series got a lot of attention, and deservedly so, when it premiered last week. This week, Villanelle (Jodie Comer) starts the episode by carrying out a particularly bloody kill – and Eve (Sandra Oh) gets the chance to identify and track her down.

Showtime, 8:00 p.m. ET

SEASON PREMIERE: Because of what happened between seasons to former co-starring correspondent Mark Halperin, who resigned his jobs after admitting to past incidents of sexual harassment while at ABC News, The Circus begins this season with a new regular correspondent: Alex Wagner (pictured) from CBS News. And this opening installment includes a visit to Moscow, where editors at the state-controlled newspaper are interviewed about their opinion of the current U.S. administration and its policies. (But interviewed just before Friday’s missile strike on Syria.) Returning co-hosts John Heilemann and Mark McKinnon are back, as is this show’s fascinating behind-the-scenes, on-the-go approach.

AMC, 9:00 p.m. ET

SEASON FINALE: In last week’s episode, Negan killed one right-hand-man, then appointed and betrayed another one. This week, Rick marshals his forces against Negan, in an ambush that only Negan knows is a death trap. Nevertheless, I’m rooting for Rick to finally end this two-season battle, because The Walking Dead has been limping for more than a year now.

Showtime, 9:00 p.m. ET

Last week’s episode ended with Carrie (Claire Danes) positively beside herself – as in hallucinating that a hospital nurse approaching her actually was a doppelganger of Carrie herself. She also thought, for a trippy and horrifying moment, she may have accidentally hit her own daughter while backing up in a rush from her school. Carrie, this season, is falling apart emotionally – but Homeland, this season, is coming together more strongly than it has since its initial groundbreaking opening year.

HBO, 10:30 p.m. ET

Bill Hader is impressing me here not only as an actor, but as a director. He packs his frame full of information and bits of business, sometimes hiding the funniest elements in the background for you to notice. And he’s very generous with his fellow actors, too, giving each of them nice quiet moments to shine, whether they’re playing insecure young actors or cocky foreign hit men.

HBO, 11:00 p.m. ET

The more frantic a week gets in terms of breaking news, the more I look forward to John Oliver’s summary and reactions. Yes, last night’s opening Saturday Night Live sketch with Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller as Robert Mueller and Michael Cohen (pictured) was great – but the last word on each week’s news still, to me, falls to John Oliver.

Bianculli’s curation effectively balances nostalgia with timely cultural markers, especially highlighting the ironic origins of Aquaman alongside the poignant Morrison tribute. https://victoryfoodscn.com
