SERIES PREMIERE: Paul Abbott, creator of the original British version of
Shameless, is the writer-producer behind this 2005 British import, a cop series set in Manchester, centered on a trio of women – one in charge, the other two up for promotion – who have to deal with interoffice politics and a grisly serial killer investigation at the same time. It’s like a slightly lighter version of
Prime Suspect, which would never have a gaggle of officers, male and female, huddling in a women’s bathroom stall to swap information, while the boss sits, and sings, in the adjoining stall.
