BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Netflix, 3:00 a.m. ET

MOVIE PREMIERE: All I need to tell you about How It Ends, this new Netflix movie, is How It Begins. Will, a lawyer played by Theo James, learns that his girlfriend Samantha, played by Kat Graham, is pregnant. He travels from Seattle to Chicago to ask her father, played by Forest Whitaker, for permission to marry her – but suddenly, communication from the West Coast is cut off, and it’s clear there’s some sort of apocalyptic event going on. The father, an ex-military, decides to cross half the country to get her, and asks, or dares, the husband-to-be to come along. Suddenly, it’s a Mad Max road trip… and, for How It Ends, that’s just the start. But why stay for the rest? The best thing about this new Netflix offering is that it’s a movie, not a series. That way, How It Ends is… more quickly.

Syfy, USA, 8:00 p.m. ET

This weekend, all the Harry Potter movies are shown in a three-day chronological burst, simulcast by both Syfy and USA. The first two films in the series are shown tonight. They’ll also be repeated tomorrow morning, in an all-day marathon – but if you want to get a head start and leave tomorrow morning free for some World Cup viewing, you can start tonight. The 2001 film that launched the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, begins at 8 p.m. ET on both Syfy and USA. That’s followed at 11:05 p.m. ET by 2002’s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

PBS, 9:00 p.m. ET

Where’s the beef? Tonight, it’s found on this American premiere episode of The Great British Baking Show, which is all about baking an impressive Wellington. Check local listings.
