BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

BBC America, 6:00 a.m. ET

Next Saturday, BBC America presents the latest nature documentary series from the Planet Earth team, presented by Sir David Attenborough: Dynasties, which will be simulcast on three other sister networks from the dynasty owning BBC America and other cable outlets. It’s certainly worth waiting for, but in the meantime, BBC America sets the table, all this week, by holding a mega-marathon of reruns of the various editions of the magnificent Planet Earth franchise. The food-chain action starts today at 6 a.m. ET, and doesn’t stop for an entire week, until the premiere of Dynasties caps the festivities. So remember: all this week, all day and all night, whenever insomnia keeps you up or politics brings you down, you can turn to BBC America and see something spectacular. And beautiful.

NBC, 4:30 p.m. ET

The Kansas City Chiefs are the top seed in the AFC, and have home-field advantage. Unfortunately, for this key divisional playoff against the Indianapolis Colts, the weather forecast is for up to six inches of snow to fall before game time. The game itself is predicted to be less bombarded by snow, but there will be bombardment from the skies regardless. Chiefs QB sensation Patrick Mahomes had more than 5,000 yards passing during the regular season, and Colts QB Andrew Luck had more than 4,500. The Chiefs were the top-ranked offense in the NFL, but ranked only 31st on defense – so a shootout, and a high-scoring, swiftly played game is likely, snow or no snow.

Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

The Seattle Seahawks almost pulled off an amazing comeback last week against the Dallas Cowboys, but a well-timed defensive play stripped the ball and handed the Cowboys the literally last-minute victory. Tonight the Cowboys face the heavily favored Los Angeles Rams – and though the Cowboys have powerhouse running back Ezekiel Elliott, the Rams have many more weapons at their disposal, on both sides of the ball.

HBO, 8:00 p.m. ET

This 2018 heist movie is a distaff spinoff of the Ocean’s 11 franchise, with Sandra Bullock, as Debbie Ocean, planning and leading a daring robbery that is equal parts audacity and revenge. A priceless necklace worn at a charity gala by a glamorous actress (played by glamorous actress Anne Hathaway) is the target, but a lot more is happening here. That includes a female-centered action film, making room for, among others, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter – and Rihanna, whose costume at the charity gala makes her the leading candidate as the 21st century’s most stunningly memorable Woman in Red.
