Just a Tease -- But Changes, and New Writers, Are Coming to TV Worth Watching

This notice is a bit premature -- but it's fair warning, and one I'm thrilled to make, that TV Worth Watching is about to expand a bit. Updated design, new features, and, most important of all, some new contributors.

From the start, this website was envisioned as a place where people could come to read about the best TV, sort among the dizzying hundreds of options out there, and get a general take on the latest programming and events that affect television as we know it.

We're about to take the next step, and add even more contributors to our hardy little stable of veteran TV critics and reporters. The more good writers, and informed viewpoints, we can present here, the better and stronger this site will get.

Why should the networks have all the fun with synergy?

We're still a while away from announcing names, or reconfiguring sites -- but it's in the works, and I'm proud that it is.

Change!
Needed and welcomed.
Just make sure anyone you bring on hasn't a tax skeleton hanging in the closet. (Very, very funny. -- David B.)

I'm excited for you and the site, David. I've been using your homepage to influence what is worth watching each night for over a year now, and it has become one of my favorites. If you haven't thought of it already, I'd love to see a complete TV grid, with 'watch-worthy' indicators. That would be great.

I've proposed something similar to NY Times.com -- but have not heard any feedback. To me, showing a TV grid with 'Critics Choice' indicators are exactly what consumers need in this era of 1,000+ channel lineups...

Best wishes for continued success. (That's a frighteningly reasonable request, and good idea. I'll mention it at our sometime-soon design summit. That's what the people with design know-how are calling it. Sounds better than "dinner." -- David B.)

You're not going to set a date for the changes, hammer that date with tons of advertising and then, two weeks before the scheduled date push it back 6 months are you? (I must be sleep-deprived, because I'm not sure if you're making fun of TV, or me, or both. Either way, I'm not offended. Just confused. -- David B.)

I was definitely making fun of TV and the whole ruckus over the change to digital, not you. Sorry for any confusion. I really enjoy your site and your take on television. (Oh, now I get it. Sorry. It WAS my sleep-deprivation. Now that you explained it, it's pretty funny... and probably always was, to everyone else reading this. Thanks for taking the time to explain, and for the compliment. -- David B.)

David Bianculli

Behind David in the picture is the first TV owned by his father, Virgil Bianculli, a 1946 Raytheon. (The TV, not his father. His father was a 1923 Italian.)

David Bianculli has been a TV critic since 1975, including a 14-year stint at the New York Daily News, and sees no reason to stop now. Currently, he's TV critic for NPR's Fresh Air, occasional substitute host for that show's Terry Gross, and teaches TV and film history at New Jersey's Rowan University. His most recent book is 2009's Dangerously Funny: The Uncensored Story of 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,' and he's at work on another.
