Update: Evil Triumphs, "Dr. Horrible" Back Up and Running

dr-horrible's-singalong-blo.jpg

Yesterday I raved about Joss Whedon's new online musical serial comedy, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and urged people to check it out. Boy, am I influential. An hour later, because of a flood of interest overwhelming the site's servers, the website crashed...

But problems are fixed, supposedly (I connected successfully Wednesday morning), so if at first you didn't succeed, try, try again. The 14-minute treat is that good, and you have to get up to speed quickly, because part two premieres tonight at midnight.

Here's the blog I posted yesterday on Broadcasting & Cable's website about the first episode, and its crashing. And here's the site itself, the place to see Whedon's newest charming effort: www.drhorrible.com -- and it ought to work. Good luck.

That is good!

When you say Part 2 premieres at "midnight", whose midnight? Some of us actually live in time zones other than Eastern.

By the way, this is something you need to be more cognizant of, since you're not writing for the NY Daily News anymore. That "N" in NPR covers at least 6 time zones, and the World Wide Web is, well, worldwide. (Neil -- You caught a fudge of mine. Nothing on the website, or that I could find, said anything other than "midnight." Since Joss is West Coast, I didn't want to presume, so let it go. But you're right. As for the daily best bets, I put ET in all of them, to make it clear. Still, point well taken. -- David B.)

I can't seem to view the videos or download them. I'm not sure what the problem is. Do you have any information about when and where I can get a DVD of Dr. Horrible? I've heard there's going to be one, but I haven't been able to find out anything else about it. Thanks in advance. (Except for the first-day site crash, it's worked fine for me, so the problem probably is with your computer, which needs to have the proper software installed to watch NBC's www.hulu.com videos. The show is too good not to resurface somewhere. When it does, I'll spread the word. -- David B.)

Behind David in the picture is the first TV owned by his father, Virgil Bianculli, a 1946 Raytheon. (The TV, not his father. His father was a 1923 Italian.)

David Bianculli has been a TV critic since 1975, including a 14-year stint at the New York Daily News, and sees no reason to stop now. Currently, he's TV critic for NPR's Fresh Air, occasional substitute host for that show's Terry Gross, and teaches TV and film history at New Jersey's Rowan University. His most recent book is 2009's Dangerously Funny: The Uncensored Story of 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,' and he's at work on another.
