STREAMING SERVICE LAUNCH: It’s neither HBO Go nor HBO Now – though, if you have either of those, they should, theoretically, shift or allow free access to
HBO Max, the new streaming service rolled out today. Its biggest draw is its large backlog of series and movies, both from HBO and elsewhere. (From this point on, for a while, HBO Max is the only streaming site on which you can see all of
Friends.) There also are HBO Max originals being unveiled today, from children’s shows (a
Muppet Show-like
The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo, a reboot of
Looney Tunes) to the best offering of the bunch, an anthology comedy-drama series called
Love Life. This first season stars Anna Kendrick (pictured) as Darby, going through men and years in New York in what feels very much like an even more modern
Sex and the City. She’s excellent, and
Love Life is, indeed, very much worth watching.
