MINISERIES PREMIERE: Peter Weir shot his haunting version of
Picnic at Hanging Rock on location in 1975, making a dreamily moody movie in Australia that gave him, and the Australian movie industry, a major boost. Based on a short novel that some people (but not all) believe was based on fact, it now stars Natalie Dormer as Mrs. Appleyard – the owner of a young girls’ finishing school in 1900, where, on Valentine’s Day, some of her students, and one of her teachers, mysteriously disappeared during a holiday picnic.
