Venus Williams was fighting her way, well along the path to an improbable and exciting return to the finals at Wimbledon, when she lost her semifinal match against No. 4-ranked Angelique Kerber of Germany. But that means Kerber now faces top-seeded Serena Williams (pictured), Venus’ sister, which sets up quite a championship final. On one side of the net, it’s Serena, looking for vengeance for her sister, and looking for her own 22nd Grand Slam singles total – which would tie the Open Era women’s record set by Steffi Graf. On the other side of the net, it’s Kerber, who would have to beat both Wlliams sisters to win this championship – and whose only Grand Slam championship, at the Australian Open earlier this year, had her beating… Serena Williams. Neither player will be lacking for inspiration, so this could be a particularly exciting and emotional match.
