The first game featuring the U.S. women’s soccer team is played today, when the USA faces Australia at 7:30 p.m. ET, live from Winnipeg. SERIES PREMIERE: Talk about timely. This new unscripted reality series focuses on 17-year-old Ben Lehwald, reacting to the transition of his father, Charlie, to a transgender woman named Carly.

MAJOR CRIMES

TNT, 9:00 p.m. ET

SEASON PREMIERE: The series is back, with what’s left of its core cast, for a new season, starting with an opening mystery about murders committed during a series of home invasions in the Hollywood Hills.

MURDER IN THE FIRST

TNT, 10:00 p.m. ET

SEASON PREMIERE: Steven Bochco’s new series, co-produced with Eric Lodal, begins a new season – which means, as with the likes of True Detective and Fargo, the start of a new season-long story. This one begins with an attack on a particularly vulnerable target: a school bus.

THE WHISPERS

ABC, 10:01 p.m. ET

Lily Rabe is good in the series lead here, as an investigator who relates especially well to children. But after watching the reworked series premiere of The Whispers, I wasn’t particularly drawn into watching more. If you reacted differently, here’s episode two, with more kids being ordered to do insidious things by their communal “imaginary playmate.” If you’ve seen a lot of sci-fi, you know the Drill…
