BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Netflix, 3:00 a.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: This new animated series comes from Ellen Degeneres’ production company, and expands Dr. Seuss’ unforgettably playful 1960 children’s picture book into 13 episodes. Michael Douglas provides the voice of the reluctant sampler of the title dish, and Adam Devine plays the insistently enthusiastic Sam-I-Am. Other voices are provided by Eddie Izzard, Diane Keaton, Tracy Morgan and John Turturro, which just goes to show how many fans this classic book has amassed over the decades, among children and parents. And since the moral of the book is to be open to new things, you may as well try it. You might even find youself saying, “Say! I like Green Eggs and Ham! I do! I like them, Sam-I-Am!” For background on the series, see Mike Hughes' Open Mike

Various Networks, 8:00 p.m. ET

SNEAK PREVIEW: Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, launches next Tuesday, and tonight the company is pushing its wares by providing a sneak preview of one of its series: a weekly version, with a new cast and story, of its High School Musical franchise. It’s the least entertaining show I sampled of the new Disney+ fare, so don’t let this discourage you from considering subscribing to the new service. Presumably, the other shows will be featured in ads or excerpts during this advance showcase, which is simulcast on ABC, Freeform, and other Disney-owned sister networks.

PBS, 9:00 p.m. ET

Lincoln Center Theatre’s 2015 version of this Rodgers & Hammerstein classic musical won the Tony for Best Revival. It’s directed by Bartlett Sher, who also directed its leading lady, the wonderful Kelli O’Hara, in an earlier revival of South Pacific. This TV production was taped when the company traveled to London’s West End, with Ken Watanabe, as the King of Siam, continuing his co-starring role. Quick facts: The King & I premiered on Broadway in 1951, it’s set in Siam in 1862, and Siam is now Thailand. Am I planning to watch? With O’Hara in the role, yes Siam. Check local listings.

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

Martin Short comes back for a second week as Miller’s cinema buddy, and selects some fun films to discuss and present: 1949’s On the Town (at 8 p.m. ET, pictured), 1993’s Sleepless in Seattle (10 p.m. ET), and 1987’s Radio Days (at midnight ET).

HBO, 10:00 p.m. ET

Among this week’s scheduled guests: Judd Apatow (pictured with Maher) and Judy Sheindlin, otherwise known as TV’s Judge Judy.
