BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

TCM’s Sunday tribute to Dracula movies continues with, fittingly, 1958’s The Return of Dracula at 8 p.m. ET, which has the Count Every Sunday in October, TCM is paying tribute to Dracula the character – going under a different name – traveling to a small Western town in America, in the late 1950s. A more famous, even more fanciful Dracula Western relocation comes later, at 10:45 p.m. ET, when TCM televises 1966’s Billy the Kid vs. Dracula. And stay tuned after that for one of the weirdest and most famous undead movies ever: the silent, spooky, impressionistic 1920 classic, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (pictured).

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

In this week’s episode, Candy (Maggie Gyllenhaal) has a run-in with a customer that doesn’t go well at all – and that accelerates her determination to go into a different line of business. Well, somewhat different….

Showtime, 9:00 p.m. ET

In tonight’s installment, Ray (Liev Schreiber) maintains his tricky, illicit relationship with the young Hollywood star – which becomes an unfamiliar problem when she drags Ray into the spotlight, where he tries never to appear.

HBO, 10:00 p.m. ET

Last week’s series premiere was a delight – and I can understand why Larry David wanted its secrets kept under wraps. I won’t even recap them here, just in case you haven’t caught up yet – but please do, before tonight’s second episode. There’s a lot to learn before diving back in…

Showtime, 10:00 p.m. ET

SERIES FINALE: This charming series is a spiritual sibling of Curb Your Enthusiasm, so it’s almost unfair that it ends up being scheduled directly opposite Larry David’s groundbreaking predecessor.  Episodes began with a British husband-and-wife writing team, played by Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig, being pulled reluctantly into the orbit of Matt LeBlanc, who had been selected to star in an American TV remake of their acclaimed British series. It ends, all these years later, with the writing couple still in Los Angeles, and finally extricating themselves from LeBlanc. Or have they? And, in any case, what next? Episodes has been so clever for so long: How will it say goodbye?

HBO, 11:00 p.m. ET

This show is too good not to point out, even when I have no idea what its host will be stressing, explaining or lampooning. John Oliver, by now, has earned our trust – or, at least, mine.
