BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

ABC, 8:00 p.m. ET

In tonight’s episode of The Middle, Mike (Neil Flynn) worries his family by taking suddenly to wearing Hawaiian shirts. I can relate…

TBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

Last night, the Houston Astros dispatched the New York Yankees rather easily in the American League’s wild card game, winning 3-0 and getting the only run it would need in the first pitch of the second inning. So the Astros are in orbit, and the Yankees are grounded until next year. Meanwhile, tonight, the National League mounts its do-or-die, one-shot trip to the 2015 postseason, as two pitching aces face one another. The Pittsburgh Pirates have Gerrit Cole, who has a 19-8 record and home-field advantage. And the Chicago Cubs have Jake Arrieta (pictured), who is 22-6 this season and, for the second half of the season, has an ERA of 0.75. Among starting pitchers playing more than 10 games in that half, it’s the lowest ERA since… well, ever. Don’t expect a high-scoring game. Do expect an intense one.

Fox, 9:00 p.m. ET

Lucious is out of jail, and Cookie, with dreams of starting her own label, appears to be out of luck. But underestimating either of these two is a big mistake – even when they’re doing battle with one another.

CNBC, 10:00 p.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: An offshoot of the former Tonight Show host’s online series, this new CNBC series helps Jay Leno indulge in his favorite hobby, collecting and fixing and driving and talking about cars, to fill some of his spare time – and, maybe, yours. Among tonight’s stunts: Leno selects a car out of his personal fleet, and hits the road, in disguise (pictured), as an “undercover” Uber driver. Good premise for Candid Camera-type laughs – and even better promotional exposure for Uber, whether the company paid for it or not. (My guess: It’s product placement, all the way.)

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: Actually, it’s only the season premiere for American Horror Story, but since this anthology series reboots each season, it’s the series premiere for Hotel, the fifth and latest incarnation of this visually imaginative, often creepily unsettling series. For the first time, two-time Emmy winner Jessica Lange is not at the center of the story, which this year takes place at a Shining-like hotel in urban Los Angeles – but Lady Gaga is. And when she finally starts talking, near the end of tonight’s opener, she’s more than eerie enough to carry the load. For full reviews, see Ed Bark's Uncle Barky's Bytes, or visit the Fresh Air website to read and hear my review on NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

Checking out classic television recommendations and archival TV reviews is always a great way to discover hidden gems and nostalgic shows to watch. Having dedicated guides makes finding quality entertainment so much easier. While discussing classic media and online entertainment options with friends recently, someone also recommended checking out platforms like [thorfortune](https://thorfortunes.it/) for a smooth and engaging user experience. Thanks for sharing this helpful update!

Great breakdown! Having well-written television like this makes evening downtime so much more engaging. When I'm taking a break between episodes or just relaxing after a long day of screen time, I usually unwind for a bit with a few casual rounds on [chicken road](https://chickenroad.gr.com/) before starting the next season. Really appreciate the thoughtful recommendations on this site!
