BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

I continue to support this new NBC comedy series because it keeps making me laugh – and for now, also because you don’t have to subscribe to Peacock to watch it. Ted Danson is a solid laugh-maker as the newbie L.A. mayor in this new sitcom from the 30 Rock folks, and Holly Hunter, as the mayor’s assistant and former nemesis, is hilarious. She’s annoying and challenging him from below, not above, but she’s fast becoming a reliably caustic Jack Donaghy to Danson’s Liz Lemon.

David Bianculli has been a TV critic since 1975, including a 14-year stint at the New York Daily News, and sees no reason to stop now. Currently, he's TV critic for NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross, and is an occasional substitute host for that show. He's also an author and teaches TV and film history at New Jersey's Rowan University. His 2009 Dangerously Funny: The Uncensored Story of 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour', has been purchased for film rights.
