It’s “Fernando” the ABBA song, sung by Cher the icon. And that’s only one scene, though a big one, in this 2018 jukebox movie musical. Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried reprise their roles of mother Donna and daughter Sophie – and Lily James appears in flashbacks as a younger (and much friskier) Donna.

In tonight’s new edition of SNL, the first in a few weeks, Sandra Oh is the guest host, and Tame Impala is the musical guest (that’s lead singer Kevin Parker with Kenan Thompson and Oh). And expect, I’m guessing, a cold-open appearance by Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump, in full-out victory mode.

 
  
 
 
2019 NCAA MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

TBS, 6:00 p.m. ET

Fresh off the games that got them here, the teams in this year’s Elite 8 battle this weekend to try to make it to next week’s Final Four. Tonight, TBS presents two out of this weekend’s four games. At 6 p.m. ET, it’s the West regional final, with No. 1 Gonzaga facing No. 3 Texas Tech. Then, at 8:30 p.m. ET, it’s the South regional final, with another No. 1 seed, Virginia, facing another No. 3: Purdue.

David Bianculli has been a TV critic since 1975, including a 14-year stint at the New York Daily News, and sees no reason to stop now. Currently, he's TV critic for NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross, and is an occasional substitute host for that show.
