And so is the hair of Vera Farmiga’s Norma Bates, who’s gone platinum, much like the classic Hitchcock heroines of old.

SERIES PREMIERE: Chloe Sevigny, who last played a transgendered assassin in Hit & Miss, this time plays someone on the right side of the law – a Pittsburgh homicide detective with a tortured past and, based on the cases she investigates, a tortured present as well. Glen Morgan of The X-Files produces this new drama, which has enough edge, enough unanswered questions, and a strong enough performance by Sevigny to warrant its sampling. INSIDE COMEDY

Showtime, 11:00 p.m. ET

Tonight, David Steinberg’s guests are Bob Einstein and Eric Idle. The former, of course, was a staff writer on Season 3 of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, the year when Steinberg made his infamous “Sermonette” appearances – and Eric Idle, in Monty Python’s Flying Circus, is another playful comic who came of satiric age during about the same period. Tonight, they all reminisce.
