SERIES FINALE: This experimental live variety series starring Neil Patrick Harris was true to the flavor of its original British inspiration – too true, I suspect, because it ended up being more parts game shows and stunts than true, talented variety segments. So we’ll have to wait for another day, and another year, for the live variety series to make a true comeback. I still assert, though, that Harris is the guy to host it. And here’s hoping, on this final Best Time Ever, he goes out with an end-of-show finale that is, indeed, his best Best Time Ever.
ABC, 8:00 p.m. ET
Tonight’s human guest star is someone who should get along famously in the Muppet world: Kristin Chenoweth. Well, except for an unavoidable rivalry with Miss Piggy, of course…
Fox, 8:30 p.m. ET
This new Fox series has more than lived up to its early promise, and keeps building upon the meta premise of this show, which stars attractive TV star Rob Lowe as an attractive former TV star, and Fred Savage as his competitive and put-upon lawyer sibling. And tonight’s episode guest stars Christina Applegate, playing an old friend who, like Lowe’s character, has aged exceptionally well.
PBS, 10:00 p.m. ET
This week’s
Frontline re-examines a cold case of multiple murders whose victims were Vietnamese-American journalists – and were killed decades ago in various cities across America, in seemingly unrelated incidents. But there seem to be connections between the murders – connections that lead to a ruthless, vindictive and widespread conspiracy. For a full story, and
