ABC, 8:00 p.m. ET

SEASON PREMIERE: This is Season 9 for The Middle, and the producers have announced that this will be the show’s final season. Perhaps accordingly, tonight’s season premiere begins with an intentional, extended reunion. Axl is back from Europe, and the other kids are around too, making it a true family reunion for the Hecks – and, of course, a fresh opportunity for a new, cramped, funny home dynamic.

THE VOICE

NBC, 8:00 p.m. ET

The blind auditions continue – which means, if you’re a fan of The Voice, these are some of the episodes most rewarding to watch. And watch, too, for the shifting dynamic of the judges: This time around, for example, Miley Cyrus has started out by playing conservatively. At least in terms of fashion, compared to her own established sartorial standards…

FINDING YOUR ROOTS WITH HENRY LOUIS GATES JR.

PBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

On Sunday, Larry David returned triumphantly to HBO, with a surprise-filled new episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Tonight, Larry David shows up on PBS – where this genealogy series serves up its own series of surprises. Also profiled and examined tonight: the man David spent last season on Saturday Night Live impersonating: Bernie Sanders. Check local listings.

AMERICAN LEAGUE WILD CARD PLAYOFF GAME

ESPN, 8:00 p.m. ET

Postseason major league baseball begins tonight, with the playing of the first playoff game of 2017. It’s the American League wild card game, with the Minnesota Twins visiting the New York Yankees for a one-game, loser-go-home contest.

FRANKENSTEIN

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

Another classic Universal monster movie is presented tonight by TCM, with the prime-time presentation of 1931’s Frankenstein, starring Boris Karloff as the creature, and Colin Clive in the title role – which is not that of the monster.

BLACK-ISH

ABC, 9:00 p.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: black-ish moves to a new night – and, this season, has a new cast member, because there’s a new baby in the house.

THIS IS US

NBC, 9:00 p.m. ET

Jack fights his demons in tonight’s second episode of the second season – and this time, unlike last week, he appears to be winning, at least for now.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: CULT

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

This is episode five of Cult, and this is the episode in which there’s a meeting of all those scary clowns – a meeting in which, reportedly, the clowns are unmasked.
