Showtime, 12:00 p.m. ET
Coming late to the
Homeland party, or just want a refresher? Basking in its multiple Emmy wins for this stellar drama series, Showtime has decided to preface tomorrow’s Season 2 premiere by giving viewers a chance to watch all of Season 1 in a conveniently scheduled 12-hour, 12-episode marathon. It starts at noon ET, ends at midnight, and includes 12 hours of fabulous television. For my review of the Season 2 premiere, see
Bianculli’s Blog.
BBC America, 8:00 p.m. ET
BBC America has been presenting Doctor Who specials almost weekly, and here’s another one. This one is a nod to all the times the Doctor has steered his Tardis to somewhere (and somewhen) in the United States, from Central Park to the wild wild West.

MIDSEASON FINALE: This episode, The Angels Take Manhattan, is the final first-run episode before Doctor Who takes a break for a while. It also marks the return of those uber-creepy angel statues – and, even more notably, the final appearance by current companions Amy Pond (played by Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill).
Starz!, 9:00 p.m. ET
While not quite as moody or creepy as the original movie version, this 2011 Hollywood remake is quite strong on its own merits. It also benefits from its leading performances: Daniel Craig is chameleonically un-Bond-like as a journalist hired to investigate a very cold case of a missing person, and Rooney Mara is daringly committed as the outcast hacker who becomes his resourceful assistant.

SNEAK PREVIEW: This series doesn’t present new episodes officially until Oct. 2, but tonight BBC America presents a special sneak preview, including a challenge in which the teams of chefs are charged with catering a cocktail party for a family – and doing all the cooking preparations in the family’s hotel room.
