BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

This is being touted as a landmark episode of The Simpsons, and with very good reason. It’s episode number 636 since this animated Fox series began as a full-length prime-time show in 1989, expanding from interstitial slots on The Tracey Ullman Show to launch with a Christmas special, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire.” And that means The Simpsons, with tonight’s episode, finally passes CBS’s landmark Western Gunsmoke as the scripted TV series with the most episodes in TV history. There remains room to nitpick, if you’re so inclined: For much of its run, TV’s Gunsmoke was an hour-long drama, so it ended up generating more hours of TV than The Simpsons. Also, because so many more episodes were televised each season when Gunsmoke moved from radio to TV in 1955, it took Gunsmoke only 20 years, until its cancellation in 1975, to amass 635 episodes – while it took The Simpsons just under 30. Oh, and finally, this important note: Even after  Gunsmoke was canceled, the show, and its star, James Arness as Matt Dillon, came back to TV in a series of four two-hour made-for-TV movie reunion sequels, starting with 1987’s Return to Dodge and ending with 1992’s To the Last Man. So even counting the extra time allotted for The Simpsons Movie in 2007, the Simpsons folks and the residents of Springfield still have some work to do to really lap the residents of Dodge City. But 636 episodes is an astounding achievement regardless, and will be noted, along with a Gunsmoke joke or two involving Homer and his dad, in tonight’s new episode. I expect The Simpsons to keep going for quite a while longer – and I fervently that when episode 666 arrives, it just happens to be with a Treehouse of Horror installment…

ABC, 8:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s Top 10 competition is something that never could have happened when this variety series was broadcast by Fox. That’s because only the Disney-owned ABC network, the new presenters of Idol, could build an entire show, as it does tonight, around “The Music of Disney.” Catie Turner will sing “Once Upon a Dream” from Sleeping Beauty, for example, and Jurnee will sing “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana. In terms of animated Disney music history, that’s quite a Jurnee.

BBC America, 8:00 p.m. ET

Last week’s Episode 3 climaxed with Eve (Sandra Oh) and her spy mentor Bill following hit woman Villanelle (Jodie Comer) into a crowded nightclub – where Villanelle, largely to upset Eve, gave new meaning to the phrase “Kill Bill.” Tonight, Eve’s pursuit of Villanelle gets even more personal as a result – and, by episode’s end, for Eve and for others, even more dangerous.

Showtime, 8:00 p.m. ET

The Circus, simply by following the news this season, has gotten increasingly and aggressively global in its reporting – visiting Russia and England last week, and France tonight. I see England, I see France, I see Putin’s underhanded ways of attacking American democracy…

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s Episode 2 of Season 2 is called “Reunion,” and delivers on its promise by putting together, in the same scene, characters who have exchanged dialogue only once before, early in Season 1: Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Maeve (Thandie Newton). When last they met, Maeve was a brothel operator, and Dolores a rancher’s sweet-hearted daughter. This season, they’re both rebellious women on specific missions: Maeve is searching for her daughter, and Dolores is out to rule the world – and not just Westworld, either, but all its other connected fantasy theme parks, and beyond.

Showtime, 9:00 p.m. ET

SEASON FINALE: Last week, the covert mission by Saul and Carrie (Mandy Patinkin, Claire Danes) was interrupted forcibly – and so was the presidency of the current occupant of the White House, leaving Saul and Carrie on foreign soil without a country. Or, at least, without authorization for their covert abduction attempt. And tonight, in the Season 7 finale, all the chickens come home to roost. And maybe Saul and Carrie, too.

Showtime, 10:05 p.m. ET

When Axe and Chuck were maneuvering to bait and outmaneuver each other last season, one of the crucial elements in both plans was an unscrupulous doctor. Tonight, Axe fears that the doctor retained some crucial evidence that could implicate Axe – and sets out to learn the truth and recover that evidence, while Chuck, with very different goals in mind,  is working that very same trail.

HBO, 10:30 p.m. ET

One hit man is dead, but his brother wants revenge – on Barry. Meanwhile, Barry is given an unusual career opportunity: the opportunity to kill his murderous mentor, Fuchs.

Pelayanan paling anjing yang pernah kami alami. Setelah uang masuk, sikap berubah total.

Hormat saya,
