BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

C-SPAN, 7:30 p.m. ET

Tonight is the night of the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., which carries with it a lot of history. It was at that event, in 2011, that then-President Barack Obama skewered Donald Trump, who was in attendance that year. Trump also was ridiculed by that year’s host, Seth Meyers, and the one-two punch of humiliation that night reportedly stung so much that it was on that fateful night that Trump decided to get revenge and run for President himself. Now, six years later, President Trump indeed is in the White House, 100 days into his presidency. And rather than stand triumphantly at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, President Trump is skipping that event – and, instead, holding a rally of his own, celebrating the completion of his administration’s first 100 days, in Harrisburg, PA. C-SPAN covers it live – as, later tonight, it also covers the black-tie correspondents’ dinner.

HBO, 8:00 p.m. ET

This year’s induction ceremony was held April 7, and the new members being added to the Hall of Fame were Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, and Yes. The festivities, speeches and performances are shown in this HBO cut-down version of the event. One segment certain not to be cut: David Letterman, in full retirement beard, inducting Pearl Jam, the band that graced his late-night TV show on several memorable occasions.

BBC America, 9:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s new Doctor Who episode is set in London – but it’s a frigid London where even the Thames is frozen, and untold dangers lurk deep beneath the surface.

C-SPAN, 9:30 p.m. ET

Even though the President of the United States is the traditional guest of honor, and final comedic speechmaker, at this annual event, President Donald Trump will not appear. Instead, he’s throwing his own event in Harrisburg, a rally celebrating… himself. But the show must go on. And tonight, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner goes on with Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj as the host.

TBS, 10:00 p.m. ET

And in the final Trump-related event of the night, since President Trump is holding his own event instead of attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner tonight, so is Samantha Bee. She’s holding her own event… and her home network TBS, not C-SPAN, is covering it.

TCM, 10:00 p.m. ET

One of my favorite movies ever, period. Made in 1969, it's going to be 50 years old soon... but it hasn't aged a day. The acting, writing, directing, it's all stunningly brilliant. Paul Newman and Robert Redford may be the best screen team since Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers -- and even when they're sharing the screen with others, the result is pure genius. Even during a knife fight...
