MIDSEASON RETURN: Penguin is incarcerated for the murder of Galavan, but that doesn’t mean there’s one less bad guy on the streets of Gotham. There’s a new villain in town, and it looks like, very soon, he’ll be going by the familiar name of Mr. Freeze.

THE VOICE

NBC, 8:00 p.m. ET

CYCLE PREMIERE: Go-around number 10 of The Voice begins, and this time the blonde on the judging team is Christina Aguilera. She sits in one of the red chairs, as Pharrell, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine nestle into the others. These initial rounds of The Voice are the show’s best, invariably – so if you still enjoy this show and these hosts, now is the time to tune in.

National Geographic, 8:00 p.m. ET

Malala Yousafzai, whom you probably remember doing the rounds on Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s shows, and charming them both, is profiled in this 2015 documentary, which explains how – and, more inspirationally, why – this young woman became a Nobel Peace Prize winner and an international activist. MAVIS!

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

This 2015 documentary, with its healthy doses of musical clips, presents a biography of soul singer and sometimes activist Mavis Staples, and her musical family, the Staple Singers.
