BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Nickelodeon, 8:00 p.m. ET

Former Jonas Brother Nick Jonas – well, I guess he’s still a Jonas brother, at least biologically – advances his solo career by being the one and only host of this year’s Kids’ Choice Awards. He performs, too, as do Iggy Azalea and Five Seconds of Summer, as the young viewers of Nickelodeon honor their favorite actors, pop stars and other idols. And, of course, in this case, it’s easy being green on this particular awards show, because a river of slime runs through it.

Epix, 8:00 p.m. ET

This two-hour Katy Perry concert film is presented by Epix, in one of its free audience sampling weekends – so if you can find Epix on your cable or satellite system, you can see this even without subscribing to Epix. It’s the sort of lavishly produced and costumed show that not only makes you understand why Perry was tapped to perform at the Super Bowl earlier this year, but suggests that her concertgoers got much the same sort of show. And Katy Perry, in this full show, gets a workout to rival many Super Bowl athletes: while singing every song, most of them anthems, she dances, runs in place, skips rope, cracks a whip, hands out pizza… basically, it’s an aerobics workout set to music, and the fact that her front-row audience members sing along with every word is both a little impressive and a little frightening.

BBC America, 10:00 p.m. ET

If you caught one of James Corden’s first-week Late Late Show outings on CBS, you had to notice some of his program’s distinguishing characteristics, such as dispensing with the talk-show desk for interviews and bringing out all his guests at once to share screen time. Credit for both those innovations can be traced to this long-running British talk show and host, who once brought out Corden as one of his guests – at the same time he welcomed Katy Perry and Paul McCartney. For my full review of The Late Late Show with James Corden on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross, and a clip from that Graham Norton show, visit the Fresh Air website. Oh – I almost forgot to mention tonight’s guests on Norton’s show: Julianne Moore, Cuba Gooding Jr., Michael Flatley and more.

TCM, 10:00 p.m. ET

Lee Marvin does a great job in this 1965 Western comedy, and won an Oscar for his impressive efforts, playing a has-been gunfighter in both his drunken and sober states – and more. The intermittent songs by frontier balladeers Nat ‘King’ Cole and Stubby Kaye are a delight, as are the performances by Michael Callan, Dwayne Hickman and Tom Nardini as members of a newly formed outlaw gang. But it’s Jane Fonda, as the film’s titular leader of that outlaw gang, who enchants the most. This is the film that turned Fonda from ingénue daughter of a film star to a film star in her own right.

NBC, 11:29 p.m. ET

Tonight’s guest host is Dwayne Johnson, who’s doing it for the fourth time. (One more, and he gets a special SNL blazer.) Musical guest: George Ezra.

Nice post. I learn some thing more difficult on various blogs everyday. It will always be stimulating you just read content using their company writers and use a little something from their site. I'd prefer to use some with all the content in my small weblog no matter whether you don't mind. Natually I'll provide you with a link on the internet weblog. Many thanks sharing
