Until last night, the Houston Astros had never won a World Series game in front of its home crowd – but then beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3, scoring all the runs it needed in the second inning, and holding on from there. Now the Astros have a 2-1 lead in the series, and have home-field advantage for two more games, including the one played tonight.

BBC America, 9:00 p.m. ET

Dirk’s investigation of his very old cold case is waylaid, or at least steered in a new direction, when Bart pops up, and entices Dirk to take part in her investigation, involving Suzie Boreton. Confused? On this series, you’re pretty much supposed to be. Just go with the existential flow.

THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW

BBC America, 10:01 p.m. ET

Tonight’s guests include three very good actors who have found their careers enhanced, and their talents showcased, by starring on television: Jane Fonda, Nicole Kidman, and Bryan Cranston.

DAVID S. PUMPKINS HALLOWEEN SPECIAL

NBC, 11:29 p.m. ET

Last year, Tom Hanks, in his latest visit as host of Saturday Night Live, starred in a sketch in which he played a Halloween character in a suit adorned with brightly drawn pumpkins, and spouting unfamiliar “catch phrases” while flanked by dancing skeleton sidekicks, played by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan. Somehow, that sketch went viral on the Internet, and has led to this late-night half-hour animated spinoff. Look at it this way: As spinoffs go, SNL has done a lot worse. Exhibit A: It’s Pat: The Movie. Exhibit B: A Night at the Roxbury. Need I continue?

SNL PRESENTS: HALLOWEEN

NBC, 12:00 a.m. ET

A new SNL special compiling old material, this program, given its lead-in, is guaranteed to present at least one Halloween sketch in particular: Tom Hanks as David S. Pumpkins (pictured).
