SERIES PREMIERE:
This is not a recommendation. This new Netflix genre series stars Sivan Alyra Rose as a teen girl who is given a heart transplant after her own heart suddenly stops (during sex, on her first encounter). The heart, from another teen girl donor (played in flashbacks and other scenes by Lilliya Scarlett Reid), begins to affect and infect the recipient’s personality and memories – a horror trope so old it seems transplanted from dozens of familiar movies and anthology TV episodes. What made me want to watch this, and keep watching all 10 episodes in preview, was the presence of Uma Thurman (pictured) as the grieving mother of the heart organ donor. If she’s in
Chambers, it has to be good, right? Wrong. In fact, the longer it goes on, the worse
Chambers gets – the writing, the acting, and especially the special effects, which are so Ed Wood-tacky here they ought to be called “ordinary effects.” My two-word capsule review: Don’t bother.
