NBC, 8:00 p.m. ET
Tonight’s show features the last of the battle rounds. After this, the judges will have their final teams assembled, and, from that point on, all contests, and conflicts, will be directed outward. For the judges, of course, it’s been that way all along – except for the Blake Shelton-Adam Levine Mutual Admiration Society. And, in its own way, for the Christina Aguilera-Christina Aguilera Mutual Admiration Society as well.
Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET
SEASON FINALE: For tonight's two-hour season finale, this series is pulling out all the stops – or, at least, most of the tricks, including cinematic homage and blatant product placement. Both of those, in fact, are combined in the same stunt tonight, as the show takes advantage of its San Francisco setting to recreate – at least in spirit, and only partially – the famous car chase scene from Steve McQueen’s classic Bullitt movie from 1968 (seen at left below). This time the car is driven by Rebecca Madsen (played by Sarah Jones, seen at left above, though a stuntwoman does the real driving), and the car, as before, is a Ford Mustang. But this time it’s a shiny 2013 model – making it a plug for the car as well as a nod to the movie. Oh, and one other movie nod: Jones, like McQueen, wears a turtleneck.
ABC Family, 8:00 p.m. ET
SEASON PREMIERE: Shailene Woodley didn’t win a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her work opposite George Clooney in The Descendants – but she does get to return, once again, to star in a new season of this ABC Family series. Yes, she deserves better than this. But tune in to see, even with this material, just how good this young actress can be.
NBC, 10:00 p.m. ET
Mutiny is stirring in several directions, which threatens to have the Marilyn Monroe musical being overhauled as it’s being workshopped – with a potential new star (is it the turn for Katharine McPhee’s Karen to step into the spotlight, at last?), as well as a potential new set of producers. Strap in your seat belts – it’s going to be a bumpy flight.
TCM, 10:00 p.m. ET
Julie Christie wowed everybody in 1965, starring in this film romance as the embodiment of the swinging Sixties British bird. And truth be told, she’s been wowing a lot of us ever since – but here, just before Dr. Zhivago and Fahrenheit 451, is where she really took off.
