BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Netflix, 3:00 a.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: It’s baaa-aack! Just when you thought it was safe to return to your TV set. It’s Fuller House, a next-generation sequel that’s better than the original T.G.I.F. mainstay – but though accurate, that’s still not intended as a compliment. I’ll allow that anyone who loved the original Full House as a kid probably will enjoy this new version, which updates the series, and the old series dynamic, with fidelity to the old show. Everyone shows up for the opener, save for the Olsen twins, and other appearances by Uncle Jesse and the rest are scattered throughout the other Season One episodes, all of which are available for streaming today. That’s where I think Netflix missed a bet here – these Fuller House episodes should have dropped once a week every Friday, just as with Full House in the old days. For a full review, see Ed Bark’s Uncle Barky’s Bytes.

Starz!, 8:00 p.m. ET

The latest wonderful film from Pixar makes its cable premiere tonight, as the internal struggles and joys of a young girl are personified by emotional characters deep within her mind. It may sound odd – but as with almost any Pixar picture, this 2015 animated film is a triumph.

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

Mel Brooks made several astoundingly funny films – and this one, from 1974, may be his very best. Gene Wilder, Gene Hackman and Peter Boyle are great. Then again, so are Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman and Teri Garr. And Marty Feldman, and… oh, just watch it.

PBS, 9:00 p.m. ET

This is the last In Performance At the White House to be presided over by President Barack Obama, and he’s saved a salute to Ray Charles for last. Guests include Usher, who gets to sing both “Georgia On My Mind” and “What’d I Say,” and other guests include Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes, Andra Day and Anthony Hamilton, Yolanda Adams, and Demi Lovato. Check local listings.

PBS, 10:00 p.m. ET

Just after Barack Obama salutes Ray Charles on PBS, American Masters turns around and salutes Fats Domino, the singer-songwriter who found his thrill on blueberry hill. For full reviews, see David Hinckley’s All Along the Watchtower and Ed Bark’s Uncle Barky’s Bytes. Check local listings.

HBO, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s guests include actor Mark Ruffalo, Fran Lebowitz, and national security expert Gen. Michael Hayden. Probable conversational topics include the latest mass shooting (this time in Kansas on Thursday) and the latest Republican presidential debate (this time in Houston, last night).

“I think commenting is the best part of my blogging – especially here at Pro Blogger. You see I’m not that profound or wise, but many of my readers are. Comments add value to my blog. They take my posts to the next level and often take my ideas in rewarding new directions.”

Holy Lolapalooza! It's been a semi-secret in my life that I like to GLAM UP and belt out a few tunes at my local watering hole. I didn't ever think that one of my FANS would stumble in to one of my performances!!! ROTFLMBFAO!!!!

Which song did you like best: Girls Just Want to Have Fun, or Highway to Hell?

Next time, please introduce yourself!! I promise, I don't bite!!!! (unless we both mutually agree that we would like that!!!!!)

Fondly yours in TV,

Dave
