BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

SEASON FINALE: The heat of Hell’s Kitchen has dissipated for me a bit the past two cycles – too much repetition, too few surprises. But the last episode of this show usually delivers a few nice moments, either of inspiration or desperation, from the remaining candidates vying to advance their culinary dreams. So popping in for the finale, without seeing what’s led up to it, is kind of like eating out and ordering only the dessert.

IFC, 8:00 p.m. ET

Where does Hollywood get its ideas for movies these days? Increasingly, from comic books and graphic novels – and that was the case with this 2010 movie, a clever adaptation of the Mark Millar-John Romita Jr. comic. Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars in the title role, playing a young man who dons a superhero costume to fight injustice – and Chloe Grace Moretz shot to stardom as her own tiny avenger, a foul-mouthed toughie named Hit-Girl. Lots of fun, and, in spots, almost unexpectedly moving.

Lifetime, 9:00 p.m. ET

Last week’s Season 12 premiere, in which the contestants had to fashion a garment out of a multicolored parachute, proved there was lots of life in this old show yet. And this week, the design challenge proves so daunting, and the comments so devastating, that at least one of the designers bursts into tears during the judging segment.

USA, 9:00 p.m. ET

Last week, Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) demanded to meet the CIA official pulling the strings – Michael’s strings in particular. Tonight, there’s at least one familiar face he does get to meet: Larry, the shifty spy played by recurring guest star Tim Matheson.

NBC, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s game night offers a mini-reunion of Saturday Night Live vets, with Amy Poehler, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph and Jason Sudeikis showing up for Jane Lynch’s fun and games. Also competing this week: Dax Shepard and Sean Hayes.
