BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

The Movie Musical Thursdays celebration continues this month on TCM, and tonight offers another great event, starting with two of the best wide-screen musicals ever filmed. First up is 1961’s West Side Story, at 8 p.m. ET – followed at 10:45 p.m. ET by 1962’s The Music Man. In both cases, the films are loaded with iconic set pieces, and TCM, which shows the movies without editing for image ratio or length, is a great place to watch them.

THIRTEEN

BBC America, 10:00 p.m. ET

MINISERIES PREMIERE: This new five-part import stars Jodie Comer as Ivy, a young woman who is shown, in the opening scene, running to a payphone and begging for help, claiming that she’s escaped from captivity after being imprisoned in a cellar for 13 years (hence the show’s title). Think of it as a variation on the theme already explored in ABC’s The Family, if you like, but here it is. For a review, see David Hinckley's All Along the Watchtower.

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH

USA, 10:00 p.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE: This new USA drama series is an English-language telenovela remake of Telemundo’s La Reina Del Sur, with Alice Braga playing a resourceful and resilient woman who has to stand and survive against a vengeful drug cartel. For a review, see David Hinckley's All Along the Watchtower.

THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW

BBC America, 11:15 p.m. ET

This one should be a Must-See: For the first time I can remember, Graham has an all-female guest roster occupying his couch – and they’re all stars of the new Ghostbusters reboot.
