SERIES PREMIERE: Emma Roberts, who’s stood out in the most recent
American Horror Story reboot, stars in this new series, also from Ryan Murphy. It’s also envisioned as an anthology series, reimagining itself after each season, which in this case is planned at 13 episodes. It’s set at a college sorority, where a bloody and long-buried tragedy from 20 years before returns to haunt Roberts’ Chanel Oberlin and the rest of her snooty sorority sisters, as well as the geeky new pledges forced upon the sorority by the no-nonsense university dean of students. She’s played by Jamie Lee Curtis, who steals this show almost effortlessly from Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Ariana Grande and others. But the tone of
Scream Queens is too arch, too mean, and, like the recent CBS series
Stalker and Fox’s own
The Following, too in love with its own depiction and glorification of violence. As a curiosity, sample it once, if you like – but I don’t think you’ll like. For a full review, see
