So much for the Kansas City Royals’ postseason undefeated streak. The San Francisco Giants not only beat the Royals in last night’s opening game of the fall classic, but beat them into submission. It was a thoroughly dominant victory, stifling the team, and the home crowd, from the opening inning. The Royals still have home-field advantage tonight – and tonight, will have to see if a new pitching matchup can make it more of an advantage.

MODERN FAMILY

Tyne Daly is all smiles in this photo – but don’t expect a lot of smiles in her guest role on tonight’s Modern Family. She plays Lily’s second grade teacher – and she’s all business.

NOVA: "BEN FRANKLIN'S BALLOONS"

Tonight’s new Nova explores the chapter of manned flight that predates the Wright brothers – and goes back to 18^th-century hot-air balloons, which were all the rage in Paris – and all the rage of visiting American Benjamin Franklin, who saw in airborne manned balloon flights the future of both travel and warfare. Using materials approximating those of the first flight, on Nov. 21, 1783, Nova takes to the skies to recreate that original liftoff. Tune in to see whether Franklin’s enthusiasms were well-placed – or full of hot air. Check local listings.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

Each episode this season has introduced new central characters. This week, the third episode of the Freak Show story, is no exception. Tonight, in the first of a two-part Halloween episode, meet fortune teller Maggie Esmeralda, played by returning repertory player Emma Roberts.
