BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

AMC, 9:00 p.m. ET

There are only three episodes left to the season – and tonight’s episode, I’m afraid, is the one where I may give up on this series for good, if it pulls another red herring of the week stunt. And based on last week’s plot, it sure seems to be heading that way. We know, by now, that the death row prisoner is innocent – but if the prime suspect, once again, is not guilty as well, what’s the point of even following the investigations of these un-intrepid detectives?

HBO, 9:00 p.m. ET

I couldn’t find any mention of this on fan site message boards or blogs, and I could be totally wrong about this. But you know how Andy’s faerie daughters have been aging at a super-accelerated rate? (Until, that is, all but one of them died.) Well, the surviving one, seen briefly in a tattered trashy outfit and carried home to Andy’s couch to recuperate, initially looked like a young teen. But when she was shown again, very briefly, halfway through last week’s episode, I swear she looked exactly like Anna Paquin, wearing the same tacky outfit. So my questions are: Has the one surviving faerie matured to the point where she’s a dead ringer (well, almost dead ringer) for Sookie? And will that figure into the plot somehow? Or I am I just losing it? Look at this screen grab from last week’s show, and you tell me…

Showtime, 9:00 p.m. ET

Decades after helping design the code by which Dexter lives and dies, and kills, Dr. Vogel (guest star Charlotte Rampling) tonight tries to advise and counsel Dexter’s “sister,” Debra  (Jennifer Carpenter). Oh, well – at least it’s all in the family. And it’s all relative.

HBO, 10:00 p.m. ET

Episode two of Season 2 introduces “The Genoa Tip,” the lead that ultimately has members of the news team going down a path to inaccuracy and lawsuits. It’s a season-long story, and unfolds slowly, so don’t be surprised, or frustrated, if tonight’s episode serves up more questions than answers. Jeff Daniels, just nominated for a Best Actor Emmy, stars.

Showtime, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s episode features Elliott Gould, showing how well he can play a tough-guy character without even raising his voice. It also has Ray (Live Schreiber) taking his kid on a trip to what might be a new school – a voyage that may be the worst take-your-kid-to-school trip since Tony Soprano hit the road with Meadow.

Well my little buddha,

The best advice that I Can offer is to do as I did: watch a butt-load of TV, become a college professor talking about TV and get a guest gig on Fresh Air to talk about TV.

Lovingly,

Dave
