Last week’s episode, set in Las Vegas, managed to put Sofia Vergara’s Gloria into a skimpy French maid costume for one fast, funny scene. This week – who am I kidding? With last week’s move (pictured, for posterity), Modern Family has my loyalty, and my attention, regardless.

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA

TCM, 9:45 p.m. ET

Whenever TCM shows David Lean’s 1962 epic, it’s worth watching – because this network shows the film as it should be seen, in the proper screen ratio, and without interruption. Peter O’Toole, Omar Sharif star.

THE AMERICANS

FX, 10:00 p.m. ET

Elizabeth hasn’t given up on her personal mission yet, and takes aim on the U.S. capitol. Problem is, there are other people in Washington who haven’t given up on their missions yet either, and their paths seem destined to cross soon.

DOLL & EM

HBO, 10:00 p.m. ET

SEASON FINALE: Em (Emily Mortimer) and best friend and personal assistant Dolly (Dolly Wells) end Season 1, with a poignant episode that leaves lots of room for an interesting and involving Season 2 – but only if producing network Sky, the British source of this series, opts to make more. Two episodes are shown tonight, and the last one, set in a London restaurant, is the one that really demonstrates this show’s potential.

O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU?

Encore, 10:05 p.m. ET

A lovely, funny, creatively presented movie, this 2000 Coen Brothers film is a movie I love to watch, and am happy to recommend, every time it’s on. George Clooney stars, in what surely is the best interpretation of The Odyssey ever put on film.
