Why am I still watching, and supporting, this musical competition series, when American Idol and The X Factor have left me completely cold this season? I figured it out when watching last night's two-hour audition round: Unlike the others, this show, at its heart, is inherently kind and genuinely supportive. And the new judges, Usher and Shakira, have established their places already, fitting in nicely — while Blake Shelton remains the sneaky stealth bomber of The Voice, saving his ammo for when he wants to strike, and taking no prisoners.

Alfred Hitchcock’s 1951 classic, starring Farley Granger in a suspense story crafted from a crafty hypothetical: What if you and someone you’d only just met agreed to kill an enemy of the other? Co-stars include Leo G. Carroll and Marion Lorne, who were featured subsequently in lighter TV fare: Topper and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. for him, Bewitched for her.

Just before being shuffled off to Saturday night, Smash presents one more first-run Tuesday episode, and this one involves the visiting parents of some of the characters – including Ivy (Megan Hilty), whose mom, Leigh, makes a return appearance as a familiar musical-comedy stage star. She’s played by one, too: Bernadette Peters returns as Leigh. And this time with a bombshell: she may be joining the cast of Bombshell.

SEASON FINALE: This has been such a good season for Justified, I hate to see it end. But it ends tonight, picking up the pieces of last week’s successful capture of decades-long fugitive Drew Thompson. What’s left for this show to do with this plot? A lot. The Detroit mob, thwarted by the clever moves of Raylan (Timothy Olyphant), decide to take revenge, and/or get to Drew, by going after Winona (Natalie Zea, taking a break from The Following to return here).

I’m as tempted to say this every time this 1967 Paul Newman movie is televised as I am to watch it, as one of my “
spider-web movies”: What we have here, as movies go, is a failure of absolutely nothing. This prison-gang movie is perfect.
